Ram Gopal Varma's Department is yet another disappointment for the viewers. Department is a gripping action drama, narrating a terrifying power struggle story. Though the movie has big star casts like Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, it fails to impress us.

Story:
The Government forms a new entity called "Department" to finish the underworld by stepping over the law's boundaries. The first half of the film is a crap, where Inspector Mahadev Bhosle (Sanjay Dutt), the boss of Mumbai's Department and Rana Daggubati (Shiv), goes on killing bunch of underworld goons. While these hard-hitting actions goes on, the first half desperately makes you wait for Amitabh Bachchan's (gangster-turned-politician) entry. Surprisingly, even after the Big B pops up with his larger than life screen persona, he fails to save RGV's last attempt. While the raw action is on, Daggubati comes across a shocking truth about his bro-like Sanjay Dutt. What's that? Watch out to learn the hidden truth.

Response: Department is all about hard kicks and punches. Though the film promises the viewers with raw action, at times it gets over dosed and looks pointless. RGV's obsession with the camera is evident in the film. The tight close-ups and minute-detailed scenes of violence is a continuous distraction and mindless. In short, the camera work throughout the film are all an assault to the eyes. The film lacks a good script and too many sub-plots adds confusion to it. The dialogues are mindless due to poor direction.

Characters: Amitabh Bachchan's deadly avatar in the film is sure to impress you all. He induces life in the film with his power-packed performance. The tall and beafy Rana Daggubati has no better job except beating up the goons throughout the movie. His cold expressions and unpolished Hindi is a sure let down. Sanjay Dutt represents an ultra dynamic character, whose power lies in his dual personality which he very successfully hides. Madhu Shalini deserves a compliment for her bold and tough role in the movie. Madhu plays a tough competition to all the men in the movie. Unlike, Lakshmi Manchu and Anjana Sukhani, Madhu Shalini won't go unnoticeable. Vijay Raaz performs well, but lacks meat. Abhimanyu Singh’s awful clothes might have set a trend in fashion elsewhere, but he just isn’t a fashionoclast. Abhimanyu looks more like an animal, than a human in the movie.

Music: The music is the biggest disaster of Department. Nathalia Kaur's item number's more hideous than hot. Also, the remixed Namak Halal song "Thodi Si Jo Pee Li Hai" is another big failure.

Verdict:
Department is a sure let down. For those who suffer eye problems, Department is a complete 'no no' for them. In short, this RGV flick is a complete waste of time and money. You are sure to curse yourself once to move out of theatre, after watching out RGV's camera obsession and bizarre action.
